Mk.5:21-43, The daughter of Jairus

Today, the Gospel passage presents before us the miracle Jesus performed for the daughter of Jairus by raising her from death. We cannot imagine the joy that the family felt in the presence of Jesus. What nobody could do  on earth was done by Jesus for them.
The words of Jesus, Thalitha Koom are now addressed to each one of us.He is here to raise us from our stupor, from our failures and guilt. What a joy it will be  for   each one of us to hear the words of Jesus asking  us to rise from our spiritual lethargy. He is there to offer us life. Why should we be afraid? We don't  have to hang our head in shame.Instead, we can walk with confidence.
Jesus is always present in our life, offering us new life, hope and a new vision.
Like the lady suffering from the hemorrhage , let us touch the edge of his life to get back into the full vigor of our life.
Lord Jesus, be with me and protect me.
Thank you,Lord.

Mk.4.35-41,Jesus Calms the Storm

Mark very cryptically describes the calming of the storm by Jesus. This s one of the miracles that has always given me a lot of peace and joy.The sea for me is  the mind of man.
Often in the sea of  life, we are constantly buffeted by anxieties, worries or guilt feelings. We are often worried about our future or what is going to be  the attitude of others to us.We are never at peace. We sometimes do not reach our own expectations about our lives. We fail or others make it difficult for us to succeed. Our hearts bleed and feel hurt.In those times, like the apostles,we want to cry out to Jesus to calm the storms that surge in our hearts. In those moments, we hear the words of Jesus , comforting us and strengthening us.His words to us are the same words he addressed the Apostles: "Why are you so frightened?Do you still have no faith?"Yes, our fear comes from our lack of faith. We have to believe against all obstacles that Jesus will protect us and that he won't abandon us.We should never lose hope or confidence.
We don't have to be worried about our future or what is going to happen to us.We have to go forward with confidence and hope.Never care for the opinions of others.Trust in the Lord and do things with confidence and joy.We don't have to depend on the favor or the sympathy of any other person.Even if we don't get any material benefits , we still have to hang on to  the Lord and to his words.
Those words are our life and hope.We may be very ordinary people but we get extraordinary strength when we are with the Lord. The words of Jesus to the raging waves of the sea are now addressed to our hearts:'Quiet now.Be still."
Lord, be with me , give me hope and confidence.Let me not be worried or anxious about anything.

Mk.3:1-31,Healing the Paralysed Hand

Jesus was asked by a man to heal him on a day of Sabbath. The on-lookers were watching whether Jesus would heal on the Sabbath. They saw even healing as a part of manual labor and never paid any  attention to the misery and suffering of the man.Jesus uses the occasion to make them understand that  rules are given for the good of man.Rules are meant for our spiritual growth , to make us come closer to God.They should not used to separate us from God.The mercy and compassion of the Lord reach out to us and wipe away every tear from our lives.
Today Jesus is asking us to stretch out our hands and to be healed from the spiritual paralysis we are suffering from.We have to be freed from the bonds that restrict us form coming closer to him.
When Jesus was told that his mother and brothers are waiting to receive him, he tells them that his  mother and brothers are those who obey the will of God.How comforting it is to know that when we obey God's teachings in our lives, we become closer to Jesus like the members of the Holy Family.
Each day offers us  plenty of opportunities to experience the love of God.Praising God and thanking him for all the blessings given to us is one of the ways in which  we can come closer to God.
Lord, help me to come closer to you and feel your love in my life.Nothing is more important and valuable in life than coming closer to you and experiencing your love in my life.Lord, bless me and give me grace to remove all feelings of  suspicion and anxiety.
Lord , free me from my spiritual paralysis.

Mk.2:1-17,The Call of Levi

In the beginning of the second chapter of Mk, the healing of the paralytic who was brought down through the hole in the roof is being described.Jesus, seeing the faith of the man ,forgives his sins and then to make the suspicious on-lookersto be convinced that he has the power to forgive as well as to heal, he asks him to take his bed and go home. The sudden cure of the paralytic surprised all who had gathered there and they were really surprised a the power of Jesus. They were not ready yet to confide their faith in him.
We are all affected by  a paralysis of faith in our lives. We need reawakening and a miraculous healing in our lives. We have to put our trust in the Lord and believe in His power to cure us.Whatever may be our failures and sins, if we come to the Lord asking for forgiveness ad cure, he will forgive our sins and give us a new life.
The same compassion  of Jesus is seen in his dealings with Levi.He not only calls him to be a follower of his but also decides to dine with him and his friends. This has shocked many of the people who thought of them as public sinners. In the eyes of Jesus , there are no public sinners. When he comes near to someone or embraces him, all his faults are wiped out.
A very categorical statement was made by Jesus which should give us hope and confidence. He has come not to call the righteous but sinners. What a source of hope and peace are those words. Our Lord will never abandon us.We can come to him at any time in our lives. He is there to receive us and offer us mercy and compassion.
All of us do not have have the same virtuous ways of behavior. Some of us , in spite of our good resolutions fail or fall in our lives. Some of us may be arrogant or abusive.Others may be too weak to over come the power of the flesh. We carry the guilt in our hearts , wondering whether Jesus would forgive us.But here, our Lord is telling us, he has come to the world  to search for the sinners and offer them mercy and forgiveness.
It is this same thought that guides our Holy Father,Pope Francis, in all his sermons where he emphasizes the need of mercy on the part of Christians.

Mk 1:16-27, The First Disciples

In the beginning of the first ch. of Mar, we find Jesus calling the people he wants as his disciples. He called first Simon and Andrew and then James and John.Peter and Andrew were casting their nets.James and John were mending the nets with their friends and other laborers.Jesus told them to follow him and all of a sudden they left everything to follow him. They did not know him before nor were they people without any work. They were called from the midst of their work. They just followed him , leaving everything behind. No thought of the future of their lives. They found that Jesus  had everything that they looked forward to having in their lives.
The first thing that Jesus did was healing Peter'smother in law and later driving out the evil spirit from the man who wanted to be cured of the possession.
What we see in Jeus is his extreme compassion. He never turns away people from him.Satisfies their material and spiritual needs.Jesus through his actions sends the message to the disciples that following him involves helping people also.To be with With God involves  making ourselves totally available  for the good of the people living with us or asking for our help.
Following involves transformation in our lives. We become  available to others.
